THE PRINCE OF WALES SEA SCHOOL
The PWSTS boys had their Inaugural re-union in Dover in September this year. This Memorial plaque was unvieled in Dover Sept 2005 They are planning a 'Downunder' re-union to be held in Sydney on the 19th. -20th. Jan 2007.
Not being as thick on the ground in Australia as us Vindi Boys they have issued an invatation to Vindi Boys here to swell the ranks of ex UK MN people at their re-union. **** I have got my name down already! ***** The Prince of Wales Sea Training School (Hostel) was founded in 1920 at Limehouse in London. The PWSTS was used to train boys for service as Deck Ratings in the Merchant Navy and was operated by the British Sailors Society.
The PWSTS moved to Ingham in 1940 and eventually transferred to Dover in 1953 until its closure in 1976. During the Limehouse period HRH The Prince of Wales paid special interest in the hostel and its running. A total of 4,900 boys were trained at the school during its operation. The future was bright for any boy who received his training at the Prince of Wales School, which had a splendid record of boys becoming Master Mariners, Marine Superintendents, Harbour Masters and Marine Instructors. All the boys were put to sea under the personal supervision of an officer and contact was kept with them throughout their career by the Society's Missionaries and Representatives in any port of the world. *******

Montys still roaring along after 120 years, open 24/7 now, gone is the 6 oclock swill! Not a seaman's pub now, gone to are all the girls of various hues and gone to all the maritime paraphernalia that used to hang thick from the ceilings & walls, but its still a good drink in there and some of the cheapest and best food around. *******
